Archaeological Museum of Kimolos

The Archaeological Museum of Kimolos is housed in a two-storey traditional house, in the capital of the island, Chorio. The museum hosts a collection of findings, originating mainly from the cemetery of the ancient town of Kimolos, at the site of Ellinika. Finds from other parts of the island are also on display, covering a wide chronological period from Prehistoric times to the Late Antiquity. The finds include stone tools, pottery, a column depicting a woman, numerous burial findings as well as an impressive representation of an ancient burial as it was found during the excavation, under a glass floor. The exhibits are presented in sections following a chronological path and are accompanied by photographs, maps and explanatory signs in an attempt to outline the course of Kimolos through the centuries.
