Archeological Museum of Karpathos
The Archeological Museum of Karpathos is housed in the western pavilion of the Provincial Offices, which was the island's Headquarters during the Italian rule. Its exhibits are divided into three sections according to the dating of their origin. The first collection includes findings from the prehistoric times and in particular from the Neolithic times, such as opsidian glades, conches and the mask of a stone figurine of a goddess as well as findings from the Late Bronze Age, which bespeak the influence of the Minoan civilization. The second section refers to the historic times and includes findings from the Hellenistic, the Classical and Roman times of the booming cities back then: Karpathos (probably today's Aperi), Arkesia, Vroukoi and Potideon (Pigadia). In conclusion, the third section refers to the Byzantine period and includes findings from the Old-Christian basilicas of the island as well as folkloric findings of the era from several settlements, such as vessels, coins and architectural specimens.
