Sargiannis Tower
A ruined mansion in the village Aïdonia (old name Galagas) of southern Andros.
The history of the tower is not known. It seems that it was built before the 18th century but not before the 17th century because earlier the area was deserted.
The name of the original owner is unknown. Perhaps it belonged to one of the Daponte families, who were of the few rich families in the island living outside the Apano Kastro in late 17th century.
“Sargiannis” is probably the name of a more recent owner.
The tower was used as a mansion but there are many medieval defensive characteristics on it, like the absence of windows in the lower levels, the elevated entrance and especially the machicolation above the main gate.
