Church of Holy Cross
The church of Holy Cross is the island’s saint patron. For the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a big feast takes place on the eve of September 14. Soon after the vesper, bread and wine are served alongside the traditional “patatato” (meat with patatoes) in the churchyard. The feast is accompanied with traditional music and dances that last all night long. The church of Holy Cross is a typical whitewashed Cycladic church with a blue dome. It was built in 1800 but was destroyed some years later, however, it was rebuilt in 1902. It is a true emerald of Cycladic architecture, especially its magnificent bell tower. If you ever find yourselves in this little island of the Cyclades, do not miss to visit this picturesque church, in order to admire its architecture, to enjoy nice views from the churchyard and to light a candle.
