Chalara beach
Ηalara beach is one of the most beautiful and wild beaches of Amorgos, however getting there is extremely difficult and only experienced hikers and people in good shape can reach it. The path to the beach starts from the settlement of Asfontylitis and the walk lasts about an hour and a half. The trail offers amazing views of the endless blue of the Aegean Sea and the southeast coast of the island. The beauty of the landscape is unique and the experience memorable. The path ends in one of the quietest parts of Amorgos, where Halara beach is located. The beach itself is a mix of white sand with pebbles and has crystal blue and refreshing waters. The path has a high level of difficulty, and in many places is indiscernible. Descending to the beach is steep with lots of huge rocks on the way.
Halara is a pristine and totally isolated beach where rarely find any people. Most likely cell phones will not have signal and attempting to get there you should by no means be alone. If you like adventure, exploration and hiking in nature, then this is the right place for you, if not, don’t even think of visiting this beach. Of course, you can always get there by boat which is much easier. However, once you are there you will definitely enjoy the tranquility this place offers and the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean. Make sure to have plenty of water and food with you if you plan to stay for a couple of hours, as the nearest bar/tavern is hours away. If you meet local farmers or cattlemen along the way, don't hesitate to ask them if you're on the right track, as it's very easy to get lost. The beach is ideal for snorkeling and spearfishing.
