Areta beach
Areta is a small pebble beach with turquoise waters in Chalki (Halki). Nestled in a very small bay, it is surrounded by high rocks that are the only ones that offer some natural shade. The seabed is excellent and ideal for snorkeling. The beach itself is pristine and quiet, with no amenities at all. The easiest way to get to this beach is by boat, alternatively on foot if you like hiking. There is a hiking trail that starts from Chora and leads to this completely secluded beach in the north of Chalki. The route is beautiful, and takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes (8.2 kilometers) to complete. The descent to the shore is steep and requires good physical condition and footwear such as hiking shoes or sneakers, not flip-flops. Avoid hiking in the middle of the day when the sun is hot and be sure to bring water and some snacks. Although a visit to Areta Beach is not that simple, the beauty of the beach and the crystal-clear waters are worth it. If you are looking for secluded beaches or moments of peace and relaxation away from noisy and crowded beaches, this is the perfect place to spend your day.
