Marathona beach
In Marathon , 4 km from the port of Aegina, there are two organized successive beaches with plenty of vegetation from eucalyptus, reeds and shrubs. At the first sandy beach there are many shops offering food, coffee or drinks. The second beach is also sandy, suitable for games and racquets, with umbrellas, sun loungers and a wooden canteen in the middle of the beach. Marathon has evolved into a tourist resort and has many rooms for rent, small organized studios and apartments. In the bay of Marathon, 480 BC the Greek ships were gathered after the Battle of Salamis and the first governor John Kapodistrias disembarked in Marathon on 11 January 1828.
