Vagionia beach
Vagionia is a secluded little and protected bay, found in a verdant area covered by many kinds of trees, in the northern part of the island of Poros. The shoreline is 500 meters long and is covered with sand and pebbles. The seabed is a mixture of shingle and sand with lots of life in the water, making it ideal for snorkeling. The waters are clear and drop off quite deep from the shore. A beach bar is found on the beach offering a few parasols and sunbeds. The bay was an ancient port that sank a long time ago but ruins of ancient houses and cobbled streets are clearly visible, if you head out a bit. It is not known when the old city was sunk, however it is known that it was an ancient port of Kalavria, used by the Macedonian fleet when Antipatros came to arrest Demosthenis.
The beach lies 7 km from the port of Poros and it can be reached by a private boat, car or taxi. The drive is stunning passing through pine forests and offering beautiful views.
