Marathias beach
The whole area is full of beautiful beaches but Marathias beach is one of the best. This beach is purely for relaxing, sunbathing and swimming in the safest of seas. It is situated in a little cove, very peaceful and quiet, surrounded by olive groves and greenery. The sea is perfect for swimming and snorkeling as the water is crystal clear. The beach is long and nice with soft sand and shallow water, very safe for children as you need to go a long way out to deep water. Even on rougher days, smaller children love the soft sand. Gently sloping sand into the sea, just a few pebbles to pass at the water’s edge then shallow for a little way, then deep enough to swim a decent way out and then shallow enough to stand-up again due to a sand-bar and then deep again.
Nearby there are many tavernas and restaurants with great Greek food. Several beach bars make it also an ideal place for a night out after an afternoon at the beach. Sunbeds and parasols are available, so are showers and cabins to change in. Although an organized beach, there is lots of space for those who want a secluded spot. Access is easy with a parking close by. Marathias beach is definitely a very nice option if you are staying locally or you want to explore the western coast. Quite a trek off the main road and down, but a huge beautiful sandy beach is your reward. The scenic sandy beach invites for long walks and shows spectacular sunsets. A walk up the hills gives a nice view over the beach.
