Arkoudilas beach
This is probably the nicest beach in the southern half of Corfu Island. A secluded place of breathtaking beauty especially when it is empty. It gets very busy during high season but if you go early in the morning it is a great spot for a bit of peace and relaxation. The beach is long but not wide. Ιt is clean and nice with white sand and clear water. The sea here is beautiful and there is the ability to drench yourself in mud in order to have a full body "mud mask". Facilities are limited but there is a canteen selling drinks and snacks. There are some sun loungers for hire, however you will not find any toilets or showers. In the pine forest located high above the beach there is the ruined monastery of Virgin Mary which was built in the 17th century.
The beach of Arkoudilas is approximately 52 km from the center of Corfu Town. It is located at the southernmost tip of the island about 2km from Kavos. You can walk to this beach from Kavos in about 45 minutes. Some of the trail is quite steep, but there is plenty of shady areas to stop and catch your breath. Walking would be hard in flip flops, so good walking shoes are essential. If you are in a car the road takes you all the way to the beach car park. Overall, Arkoudilas beach a perfect place to get away from the conventional beaches. A fantastic beach off the beaten track with incredible views and certainly quieter than the main Kavos beaches. Definitely worth the trip to get there.
