Famous Shipwreck beach to remain closed this summer
Under the fear of possible landslides, local authorities have decided to keep the iconic Shipwreck beach closed to tourists this summer. The decision to prohibit access was recommended by a team of experts from the Anti-Seismic Planning and Protection Organization (OASP), following an inspection to the site on March 8, as part of a regular safety check. Having taking into account the significant risk of landslides due to erosion of the surrounding cliffs, the authorities decided that the safety of residents and visitors is above everything else. In 2018 seven people were injured in a landslide on the same beach. The safety of the beach will be reassessed twice a year.
