Kountouriotia

The "Kountouriotia" is a festive event organized by the Municipality of Hydra honoring the First President of the Hellenic Republic and hero of the Balkan Wars Hydra Admiral Pavlos Kountourioti. During the events taking place on the island around the end of August, there are a number of visitors, while officials, representatives of the political and military authorities as well as representatives of letters and art are invited and attended. "Kountouriotia" includes a rich six-day festive program, full of guided tours of the island's Museums, exhibitions, screenings, speeches, book presentations and sporting events. On the last day of the events, there is praise in the Holy Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the memorial ceremony and deposition of wreaths in Andrianta and the Tomb of the Admiral of Hydra and the first President of the Hellenic Republic, Pavlos Kountourioti.
