Xetripiti Gorge
Near the villages of Malonas and Massari is the Xetripiti gorge, a hidden natural paradise on the island of Rhodes. A naturally formed portico makes the passage impressive, like a closed tunnel. The waters of the Makkari river cross the very narrow slit formed by the surrounding mountains. The route along the river continues with sometimes bigger and sometimes smaller openings of the river. At some points there are exits on the right, where you can get out of the river and return to the starting point. The gorge is surrounded by tall trees, oleanders, wicker and many other aromatic and rare plants.
Xerotripiti gorge is located in the area of Malona and has been designated as a NATURA protected zone. The hiking trail has a low degree of difficulty and is ideal for all ages and skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and backpacking. You can find the gorge by walking through the dry river bed from the bridge between Malonas and Massari for almost 1.30 hours.
