Palaio Trikeri
HISTORY
Homer called the Paleo (Old) Trikeri "Kikynithos". It is said to have been inhabited since the Stone Age era. In fact, tradition says that Jason's Argo was also involved here in order to be maintained by its sailors, so that he could continue his long journey to Colchis.
The inhabitants lived here until the terrible earthquakes of the 6th century AD, when they moved to the slopes of Theriakontas. However, they could not rest there either, since in the late medieval years the island suffered a lot from pirates. This was the reason why the island was abandoned and its inhabitants crossed to the opposite mainland and built the new Trikeri, which offered them more security. Paleo Trikeri was a place of exile for women during the civil war.
