Agios Ioannis beach

A beach with crystal-clear waters, mostly windy thus ideal for water sports. It takes only a five-minute ride to the west to get there from the island’s capital city and visitors may find it easy to park, as there are plenty of free parking lots. A locals’ favourite sea-side, Agios Ioannis is part of the great 10km-long Gyra beach. Its name derives from the nearby St. John’s (Agios Ioannis) of Antzouzi chapel, built in 65 AD.

Only a few sunbeds and beach umbrellas are available, but there are plenty of cafes and restaurants next to the beach, and a handful of windmills nearby. Although the beach is sandy, bathers are advised to remain cautious to avoid the big horizontal white rocks in shallow-water.
