Discover Lakonia

Map: Lakonia

The historic region of Laconia is located on the southeastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It is a blessed place, rich in history, culture and natural beauty. The whole region is a vast museum with monuments from antiquity to modern times. With a history of more than 4000 years, it has played an important role in the history of the country. Lakonia is the land of the famous towns of Mystras and Sparta, the rock of Monemvasia, of numerous towers, Byzantine monuments and picturesque traditional villages such as Areopolis, Gythio, Vathia, Porto Kagio, Gerolimenas, Limeni and many more. In the Laconian land lies one of the most beautiful caves in the world, the cave of Vlychada or Diros and the Geopark of Agios Nikolaos with the fossilized Palm Forest and the unique findings of inestimable scientific importance.

In the charming area of Mani with the wild landscape, there are plenty of beaches with crystal-clear waters and the most of the traditional villages of the Peloponnese. It is an area full of legends and traditions that take you back in time. In Mani you can find real Greece, away from the hustle and bustle of other areas. Spectacular coastlines and barren mountain ranges, dotted with small clusters of fort-like tower-houses will impress and charm you. Mani beckons travelers with its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and local culture and offers an array of experiences that capture the essence of Greece’s past and present. Wandering around the area, is a great experience, worth living. All these and many more make Laconia one of the best travel destinations in the Peloponnese, throughout the year.
