The Fairy Garden (Neraidokipos) is a captivating natural wonder located near the village of Paifko, on Mount Taygetos in Gouvala. Known for its unusual appearance and surrounded by countless local legends, the area is said to come alive at night with elves and fairies, giving the site its magical name.
At first glance, the Fairy Garden looks like a giant crater, with a depth of approximately 70–80 meters (0.05 miles) and an opening about 100 meters (0.06 miles) wide. Nestled in the middle of a lush green hill, the formation resembles a meteorite impact, creating an air of mystery that has fascinated locals and visitors for generations.
You can reach the Fairy Garden from the southern edge of Paifko village. A small trail begins just at the exit of the village and winds through the lush hillside, gradually leading up to the top of the mountain where the enigmatic “hole” awaits. The hike offers scenic views of Mount Taygetos and the surrounding landscape, making it a must-see destination for hikers, nature lovers, and those seeking a touch of magic.
