Kythnos
Merichas port in Kythnos is the main harbor and ferry dock on the Island. The port town is located on the central-western coast of the island. Port’s new quay allows docking of large passenger ships. Yachts and sailing boats can moor stern-to between the breakwater and the fishing quay whereby the inner area right t the breakwater has to be clear for cargo vessels and excursion boats. Since the completion of the new ferry dock, yachts in the harbor are sheltered from the swell. Although, the bay is sheltered from the prevailing winds, when the Meltemi blows, strong gusts sweep through the harbor area. Merichas port is nearly always full in the season as it is a popular starting point for yachts sailing to and from Athens. Water and electricity are available, so is a fuel station. The port area has several amenities including shops, various cafés and restaurants, car rentals, hotels and rooms to let.
