Vasilitsa Ski Resort
Vasilitsa Ski Resort is located in the western part of the Greek region of Macedonia and offers a respectable 469 meters (1538 feet) vertical drop. Vasilitsa extends into four slopes and comprises 18 ski trails, among them the longest ski trail for beginners in Greece (3,860m). It offers 22 km of marked trails with 18% (4 km) of the total trails ideal for beginners, 64% (14 km) of the total trails being suitable for intermediate skiers and 18% (4 km) for the more advanced and expert of level skiers and snowboarders. The area is also equipped to welcome snowboarders and offers advanced facilities, ski learning schools, ski rentals, two chalets and one guesthouse. The first lift was built in 1975 with six more to have been built since.
Located on the slopes of the Lingos peak, at 2,113 meters (6,932 feet) above sea level, the ski resort is open 350 days per year and receives approximately 60,000 visitors annually. This number is explained by the presence of the mountain bike park, which opens in the warmer months and is where visitors can enjoy some downhill bike races and activities. Surrounded by black pine tree forests, Vasilitsa Ski Resort is very popular for the fans of winter sports especially for those coming from Northern Greece. Due to the weather in the area, snow covers the slopes until springtime but even when there is no snow, the whole area is ideal for adventure activities such as rafting, climbing, mountain biking and hiking. Vasilitsa Ski Resort is a 30-minute drive away from the regional capital Grevena and 213 kilometers (132 miles) from Thessaloniki via the Egnatia Motorway. Athens is 417 kilometers away and the journey should take about 5.5 hours. The resort operates from 09:00 to 16:00, but please note that opening times can vary based on external conditions, day of the week and public holidays.
