Stone Bridges: Bridge of Klidoniavista
The Bridge of Klidoniavista is located in the village of Klidonia in the province of Konitsa, where the ravine of Vikos ends. It spans over Voidomatis River and was built in 1853. At this point of the river there was an older bridge from the Byzantine times that was linked to a fatal incident between two local families which resulted to the abandonment of an entire village. Two large and wealthy families clashed over the bridge over honor. One was the Gereni family and the other was the Stamatis family. Gereni's daughter who was a bride, was travelling with her family and relatives over the bridge, when Stamatis' family was thrown into a frenzy with friends. In the ensuing fight, Gerenis along with his wife and two cousins of the bride, were killed.
