Marathi - Thapsana

Starting from the ancient quarries in Marathi, another pleasant hiking route in Paros. From there we enter the settlement of Marathi and continue on the dirt road that passes in front of the already ruined buildings of the French company that mined marble (the famous lychnite) at the end of the 19th century. There we can visit the underground artefacts of the quarries, (the cave of the nymphs and Panos).

Continuing the dirt road we are going through modern slaughterhouses (recently operated) and arriving at a crossroads. If we go right we go to the monastery of Agios Minas and left we go to the region of Vounia, where we find many residences, one of which is preserved by the owner of D. Rousso and could be described as a folk museum. You can visit it.

On the way back to Parikia, we cross the bridge of Elita, we follow the dirt road and reach Thapsana. Idyllic landscape and even natural. In the area there is the monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa in which nuns live.

From this area you have several path choices. To the All Saints, towards Agios Minas, and through the manganese quarries, to Parikia .
