Circular Route: Marathonas - Kapotides - Pachia Rachi - Eleonas - Marathonas

From Marathon's paragliding we take the asphalt to the city. After 200m on our left, we can see the small wetland of Marathon that hosts migratory birds for temporary rest on their long journeys. After 100m we turn right to the asphalt road towards the mountain, aiming for the dirt road that will lead us to the beginning of the path to the old settlement of Kapotides where we arrive after 35 minutes. It was there until recently that the last stone that had gathered the famous Aiginian millstones for export to the Aegean islands.

We climb the right slope towards the featured since 1996 as a traditional settlement of Pachiorachi or Pachia Rachi. The houses are stone-paved, the cobbled streets. The village was an old agricultural and forage settlement organized before the Greek Revolution of 1821. Before 1950 it had 55 families and a school with 71 children.

After passing the church of Agios Dionysios (founded in 1813) we turn right and take the downhill path along the stream to arrive after about half an hour in the valley of Eleonas, where the ancient olives of 1500-2000 years dominate. The path passes through the chapel of Agia Triada with the old reservoir and the black-washed pots, leading to some of the most impressive olives of Eleonas. Each one is a different living sculpture. It is worth taking time to explore them.

From Eleonas, we head down to Marathon beach (where we arrive after 50 minutes before going to the end of the route beside the vegetable garden of the local producers, while on the left we can see the hill Kakoperato where the black stone was coming out to build the millstone.
