Wreck «Nordland»
An impressive sight is the shipwreck of the Russian cargo ship Nordland, half-submerged in the seaside village of Diakofti. On August 29, 2000, the ship stranded on the islet of Dragons, and the cause was his crew that got drunk. The engine room was flooded, and there was fuel leakage, contaminating the nearby coast. The ship is currently submerged, with its stern about 30 meters deep and its bow offshore.
The shipwreck has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kythera and has been rated a popular diving spot. Both Greek and foreign divers, including diving schools, arrive at the spot.
