Amazonas Park

The Zoo opened in 2011 and is close to the small town of Neapolis. Large tourist resorts such as Hersonissos, Malia and Agios Nikolaos are less than 30km away. The place is very beautiful, clean and full of trees and flowers that make you think you are in a forest. The park is a heaven for parrots, small and large, from all over the world. There are animals seized by customs officers for the illegal import of animals or birds whose owners could not, continue to take care of them for economic reasons or age. The founders of the park are three persons, Fabienne (former sales manager in Luxembourg), Patrick (a reporter in a well-known Luxembourg newspaper) and Patricio (a Portuguese journalist in a well-known Luxembourg newspaper).

The zoo focuses on animals from South America, especially parrots and monkeys. There are also some pets like donkeys and goats. Probably the greatest attraction in the Amazonas Park is a very large enclosure with and goats, but also the feeding of the lemurs  and monkeys.

Please note that the zoo does not receive financial support from the Greek government or the municipality of Neapolis. The animal park was funded and built with great love and dedication by individuals.

For your car access: Take Neapolis exit to Heraklion - Hersonissos - Malion - Agios Nikolaos expressway. Do not enter the small town of Naples. Follow the other way up to Kourounes (a small village), after about 3km you get to the zoo. The signs during the journey will help you. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation, at present, near Amazonas Park. You can take the bus to Neapoli from Heraklion or Agios Nikolaos. The last 4km you can take a taxi or walk. Opening hours are daily 10:00 am - 6:00 pm but the best contact them before your visit. There is parking just opposite and there is a ticket for your entrance to the park.
