Rafina
Rafina is the second busiest port in Attica after that of Piraeus. It is located on the eastern coast of the Attica peninsula, about 30 km (18.6 miles) from central Athens. It is a smaller port mainly serving the southern part of Evia and the northern part of the Cyclades including Tinos, Andros and Mykonos among others. Compared to departures from Piraeus, it generally takes less time to get to any of these islands from Rafina’s Port and in many cases fares are lower. Andros is the closest destination from the Cyclades islands served by Rafina. It is about 2 hours away and there are several crossings. Various types of vessels depart from Rafina, ranging from conventional ferries to high-speed ferries making the trip fast and comfortable.
Ferries are easily reached as the port is located near the town center. It gets very crowded during summer with multiple ferry departures and arrivals during the day. If you are travelling by car, we would recommend to be at the port at least one hour before your ferry departure. Rafina Port features three waiting areas for passengers. Near the port area, there are travel agencies, ATMs, bus stops, mini markets and kiosks, cafes, tavernas and restaurants. Rafina is also very close to the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and is a good location for an overnight stopover for visitors to the Cyclades, who have arrived at the airport too late to catch the last ferry to the island destination. So, if you arrive late or you have some time, it is worth visiting the Hill of the Fortress, the quaint chapel of Agios Nikolaos, Rafina’s Folklore Museum or some of the lovely beaches around Rafina like Kokkino Limanaki and enjoy the turquoise waters.
