Limnos International Airport (LXS) is located just 17.9 kilometers (approximately 20 minutes) from Myrina, the charming capital of Limnos Island. Operating since 1959, the airport was relocated to modern facilities in 2001, providing a more efficient and comfortable experience for travelers.

Named after Hephaestus, the ancient Greek god of fire and metallurgy, the airport pays tribute to the island's rich mythological history. According to Greek mythology, Hephaestus was cast out of Mount Olympus and landed on the island of Lemnos, where the locals took him in and cared for him. In gratitude, Hephaestus taught the people the art of metallurgy, which is why many ancient texts refer to Lemnos as the "Island of Hephaestus."
