Trizonia
Trizonia (Greek: Τριζόνια) is the largest island of the Corinthian Gulf with an area of 2.5 Km² and the only inhabited. They belong to the prefecture of Fokida and belong to the Municipality of Dorida (formerly in the Municipality of Tolofonos). There are three aspects to the origin of the island's name. According to the first, the island was named after the homonymous bug, according to the second view, the name is a corruption of the triοnisia, a name that described the complex of the three southern tribes (Agios Ioannis, Planemi and Prasoudi) according to the third view the name comes from the three zones, ie from the three access points on the island. In the center of the island dominates the picturesque and perfectly guarded natural harbor formed during the last years in a marina of pleasure boats, sailing to Corinthiakos and following the Piraeus - Lefkada course, making a stop for overnight stays. For those who love walking, it is an ideal destination because the island has an area of just two and a half kilometers, mostly covered with olives, vineyards, cypresses and other trees.
Trizonia is a small island in the Corinthian Gulf and the only inhabited island among the islands of the gulf. On the island there aren't any roads or vehicles.
The name of the island perhaps derives from the small insect, cricket (trizoni in Greek). According to another story, it derives from the corruption of the word “trionisia” meaning three islands. Trizonia together with the islets of Agios Ioannis and Prassoudi form a small cluster of islands in the Corinthian gulf.
