Here we go!

Thasos or Thassos is the northernmost Greek island, and the 12th largest by area.

According to the greatest historian of the antiquity Herodotus, the island was named after the Phoenician Thassos, the son of the Pharaonic monarch Arginor, who went to the island in search of his sister Europa, whom Zeus had abducted. As he could not go back home without Europa, he settled on the island that has since then carried his name.

The highest peak is Ypsario (Ipsario) at 1,205 meters (3.953 feet) somewhat at the center.

Thassos is famous for its wine with its distinctive aroma and its marble quarries.

Getting Around

HOW TO GET AROUND IOS | Car Rental, Bus. Taxi, Scooter / ATV

Thassos is a reasonably small Greek island with a circular main road that goes around the island and follows its coastline. The best way to discover the hidden beauties of Thassos is by car, motorcycle, or ATV. You can make several stops in one day and explore the island at your own pace. The roads are well maintained and wide, compared to other Greek islands. If you cannot bring you own vehicle, you can still rent one on the island. There are several car rental companies on the port as well as in all major towns. Make sure you have an EU International Driving License, and within a matter of minutes, you can be on the roads. On the other hand, if you prefer public transport, there are buses on the island. The main station is located in Limenas next to the port. Buses are frequent and take you to the main attractions and beaches. However, the journeys take a lot of time since the bus has multiple stops. Taking a taxi is another option, as log as you agree on the trip’s price beforehand, just to be on the safe side and avoid overcharging.
