How to get to Thassos from Keramoti and Kavala

Thassos has two ports that connect the island with the mainland. One is in Limeni the capital of the island with ferries to Keramoti, and the other in Skala Prinou, the second largest ferry port on the island, with ferries to Kavala. The timetable of ferries to either port is frequent during the summer. The trip from Kavala to Thassos Island is longer (approximately one and a half hours), whereas Keramoti is just twenty-five minutes away from Limenas. Travelling from Keramoti to Thassos Island is also much cheaper. As a result, most travelers prefer the port of Keramoti. To see all the schedules between Keramoti - Limenas and Kavala – Prinos, please visit the Thassos Ferries official website. Tickets are cheap and can be purchased from the company booking offices at the port prior to departure. Note, that tickets are not available on the internet.

Although the island of Thassos has no airport, you can still fly less than 15 kilometers from the coast of Thassos. Kavala International Airport is just 11,6 km from Keramoti, therefore you can reach the island in less than an hour from landing. Kavala Airport is well-connected to Athens International Airport by internal flights all year round. During the summer it also receives flights from many European countries. Upon your arrival, you can take a taxi or bus and have an enjoyable 30 minutes ride to Kavala (30,5 km), or a 12 minutes ride to Keramoti (11,6 km). If there isn’t a direct flight from your country to Kavala, you can fly to Thessaloniki and then travel to Kavala by car or bus. Driving from Thessaloniki to Kavala is easy and it will take around two hours to reach the port (171 km). If you choose Keramoti as departure port, the drive from Thessaloniki to Keramoti will take an extra 20 minutes. If renting a car is not an option, there are buses from Thessaloniki to Kavala all day. Head to Thessaloniki's bus terminal and take a bus to Kavala. Ticket prices are reasonable and it will take around two and a half hours to get to Kavala.
