HOW TO GET AROUND LEFKADA | Car Rental, Bus. Taxi, Boats, Scooter / ATV
Rental: Without a doubt, renting a car, scooter or ATV is the best way to move around Lefkada. The island has many off-the-beaten-path attractions, and several hidden beaches to discover, so having your own wheels will give you the flexibility to move faster in a more convenient way and will allow you to stop wherever and whenever you want. In addition, you can discover places, where public transport cannot reach or drops you off too far from the final destination and then you need to walk long distance to get there. The roads are in a decent condition, but expect a lot of winding and scary mountain roads. To rent a car, you will need to be over 18 years old, and have a EU or international driver’s license. Vehicle rentals can be found in bigger places like Lefkada Town and Nidri. If you are traveling by plane, you can hire a small car at the Aktion Airport, in Preveza and then drive to Lefkada.
Bus: If you do not wish to rent a vehicle, there are public buses and water taxis you can use to move around the island. Bus connections are between Lefkada town and all key points and places of interest. For more information and schedules, check out the official bus site. Boats: If you are planning to just explore the beaches, excursion boats can get you to some of the more remote beaches. Taxis: Many visitors also opt to use taxis to explore the island, but this is a much more expensive option, unless you are travelling in a group. Bear in mind, that there are standard fares between certain destinations, just so you know how much you should be paying.
On coasts and islands of central and southern Greece, where the climate is Mediterranean, winter is mild and quite rainy, while summers are sunny and hot.
On the islands, during winter the wind often blows; precipitation often occurs at night and in the early morning. On the islands, snowfalls are rare, and generally occur only in the northern ones, during the most intense cold spells.
Spring is pleasant and sunny in most of Greece. The days with some rainfall become less and less frequent. In summer, in the Aegean Sea the Meltemi, a northerly wind typical of the warmest months (July and August), often blows, and even if the sky is clear.
