Ios or Nios is a Greek island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea, situated halfway between Naxos and Santorini.

The distance between the port of Piraeus in Athens and Ios is 111 nautical miles.

Getting Around

HOW TO GET AROUND IOS | Car Rental, Bus. Taxi, Boats, Scooter / ATV

Bus: Ios is just 18 km (11 miles) long and 10 km (6 miles) wide which makes it easy to explore. There is a frequent public bus between Ios Port, Chora and Mylopotas beach, and a more infrequent service to Koubara and back. There are also buses running that will go to other popular beaches such Manganari and Agia Theodoti, but these do not go often during the day. Many people like to take the bus from the port to Chora as it is high on the hill and can be a hot walk. Tickets are cheap and up-to-date timetables are displayed at the numerous bus stops. Keep in mind that your options are limited if you depend on the bus, as there are plenty of remote beaches and points of interest to discover around the island. Taxis: There are also a few taxis on the island but they can be hard to get in summer. Rental: The best way to get around Ios is by scooters, ATVs or by car. Renting a car, ATV or scooter is easily done and there are many companies at the port and in Chora offering services. Drivers must be 21 years old and must have an EU or international driver’s license. Boats: Lastly, there are daily excursions by boat that will take you to various beaches that are accessed only by the sea.
