Folegandros

Folegandros is an untouched piece of true Greece which stands out from the other Cycladic Islands, thanks to its rugged wild feel and its beautiful Chora, one of the most picturesque towns of the Cyclades. Arguably, the best-known feature of Folegandros are the stunning cliff views from Chora. However, this tiny island has lots more to offer, including traditional villages, gorgeous beaches, wild landscapes, old paths and delicious food. The island is unaffected by the popularity of other islands and brings up this relaxing and easygoing feeling you need for vacation. Chora is a traditional charming village with Cycladic-style houses and a beautiful church on top. From its courtyard, you can enjoy some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the Aegean. In the evenings, you can wander around the town and enjoy Greek food and local wine.

Take a boat trip around the island and discover hidden beaches or admire the view from Aspropounta Lighthouse. Do not miss to take a look around rural Ano Meria, learn about local culture at the Folklore Museum, explore the picturesque Kastro neighborhood or just dip in the crystal-clear water of the Aegean Sea. You can join one of the many religious celebrations that take place on the island throughout the year, or hike the impressive volcanic mountains. Whether you are looking for fun with friends or you arranging a romantic vacation for two, Folegandros is for everyone. Definitely this off the beaten destination will offer you magical moments and lots of great photos.

Folegandros is a small Greek island, halfway between Sikinos and Milos. Together with Sikinos, Ios, Anafi and Santorini form the southern part of the Cyclades.

The port of Folegandros is the small village of Karavostasis. The distance between Folegandros and Piraeus port in Athens is 105 nautical miles.

Most of the island is a protected Natura 2000 habitat, where Mediterranean seals monachus monachus find refuge.

Getting Around

HOW TO GET AROUND FOLEGANDROS | Car Rental, Bus. Taxi, Boats, Scooter / ATV

Folegandros is one of those islands, where having your own vehicle or renting one is not necessary. There are public buses to take you to any of the island’s villages and to most popular beaches. Moreover, there are a few taxis but they are not cheap and can be hard to get, in summer. A great way to visit the most beautiful and remote beaches is by water taxis. Water taxis depart daily from the port of the island. Renting scooters, ATVs and cars is another option. Being on an extremely small island with many hard-to-get-to beaches, there is really no better place to hop on a quad. There are lots of rental companies near the port and in Chora, but you’d better book one in advance if you plan to be there during high season. To rent a scooter or ATV, you will need an EU or international driving license. More adventurous can rent bikes but the island is very hilly and there is little shade.
