Situated on the southwestern coast of Paros, just 9 kilometers from Paroikia, Paros Airport (PAS) has been welcoming travelers since October 5, 1982. As the island’s main transport hub, the airport is crucial for connecting Paros to the Greek mainland, serving as a key entry point for visitors eager to explore this picturesque island.
A Brief History of Paros Airport
Paros Airport began as a modest community airstrip with a dirt runway just 80 meters long, constructed on land generously donated by Nikolas Pantelaios. Over the years, the airport has undergone significant developments. In 1985, the runway was paved, and by 1987, the terminal saw an expansion with the addition of a new floor. By 1989, the airport officially became a state-run facility, continuing to serve the increasing number of visitors to the island.
Modernization and Future Improvements
Currently, Paros Airport is undergoing a major modernization project, which includes the construction of a new terminal, a revamped surrounding area, a new control tower, an extended runway, expanded parking facilities, and the introduction of electric vehicle charging stations. These upgrades aim to improve services, enhance passenger experience, and boost tourism on the island.
Paros Airport primarily serves domestic flights, with a single terminal building that includes a small café (open during airport hours). Additionally, there is an outdoor parking lot with space for up to 70 vehicles, providing ample parking for visitors.
Whether you're visiting for a relaxing island getaway or exploring Paros' stunning landscapes, Paros Airport offers convenient access and is steadily enhancing its facilities to accommodate growing tourism.
