Ioannina Airport
20° 49’ 19” E 39° 41’ 50” N
Located just 5 kilometers northwest of Ioannina, Ioannina Airport (IOA) has been serving travelers since 1932. As a regional airport, it offers both domestic and international flights, making it a key hub for residents of the Epirus region as well as visitors heading to Ioannina and Western Greece.
Though it is a small regional airport, Ioannina Airport provides essential services for a convenient travel experience. Facilities include a cafeteria that operates during scheduled flight hours and an ATM from Piraeus Bank. There is also ample parking space available for both passenger vehicles and buses.
The airport is named after King Pyrrhus of Epirus (318–272 BC), a renowned ancient ruler who, in 295 BC, became the King of all Epirus. He later conquered Macedonia and led military campaigns in Italy, where he was famously defeated by the Romans in 275 BC, a battle that gave rise to the term "Pyrrhic victory."
Whether you're arriving for business, leisure, or to explore the rich history of the region, Ioannina Airport offers a convenient gateway to the heart of Western Greece.
