Thessaloniki International Airport “Makedonia” (IATA: SKG) is the main airport serving Northern Greece. Located in the Mikra area, it lies approximately 14.7 kilometres (about 26 minutes by car) southeast of Thessaloniki city centre, offering convenient access to the region’s top destinations.

Originally known as the State Airport of Mikra Thessaloniki, the airport was renamed “Makedonia” in 1992 to reflect the historical and regional significance of Macedonia. In operation since 1930, SKG Airport handles both domestic and international flights around the clock. It functions as a vital hub for passenger travel and cargo transport in Northern Greece.

In December 2015, a 40-year concession agreement was signed between Fraport AG / Copelouzos Group and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). Management of the airport officially transferred to the consortium on April 11, 2017.

In addition to its commercial role, Thessaloniki Airport also accommodates units of the Hellenic Air Force and hosts the Thessaloniki Aeroclub, which offers light aircraft rentals.
