Santorini Airport (JTR) is conveniently located on the eastern side of the island, just 6 kilometers from Fira, the island's vibrant capital. In operation since 1976, the airport serves both domestic and international flights, making it an essential hub for travelers heading to Santorini. Additionally, it caters to passengers traveling to neighboring islands that lack their own airports.

During the peak summer months, the airport experiences a sharp increase in traffic, as Santorini remains one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting visitors from across the globe. Since December 2015, Santorini Airport (formerly known as the National Airport of Santorini) has been operated by the Fraport AG / Kopelouzos Group consortium under a 40-year concession agreement, alongside 13 other airports throughout Greece.

Access to Santorini Airport

Santorini Airport is easily accessible from Fira via the local KTEL Santorini bus service. The bus station is conveniently located just outside the departure’s terminal, and tickets can be purchased directly on board. For those seeking a more private option, a taxi station is located right outside the departures hall.

The airport also offers limited free parking directly across from the terminal, making it convenient for those traveling by car.

Transportation

By Car: Santorini Airport is located 6 km from Fira and is easily accessible from the provincial road Mesarias-Archeas Thiras. The journey to and from Firá takes about 15 minutes. 

By Public Bus: Transit bus service is provided between the Airport and Firá. Bus stop is located on your left after exiting the arrivals building, between the arrivals and departures buildings. By Taxi: 24/7 metered taxi service is available outside the Santorini Airport Terminal building. The journey from the Airport to Firá is about 15 minutes and the fare is normally 15-20€. You may be charged extra, if you carry many pieces of luggage.
