Kefalonia International Airport “Anna Pollatou” (IATA: EFL) is the main gateway to the island and is located just 8 km from Argostoli, Kefalonia’s capital. The airport began operations in 1971 and is named in honour of Anna Pollatou, the Greek Olympic gymnast from Kefalonia who tragically lost her life.

The passenger terminal was originally built in the early 1990s and underwent a major upgrade in 2019 by airport operator Fraport Greece. As part of the modernization project, a new terminal building covering 10,700 m² was constructed, significantly improving passenger comfort and capacity. The renovation also included a new fire station, upgrades to the control tower, and a complete redesign of aircraft parking areas, bringing the airport up to modern international standards.

Today, Kefalonia Airport efficiently serves both domestic and international flights, especially during the busy summer season.

Getting to and from the Airport

Kefalonia Airport is connected to Argostoli town centre by a local bus service. The bus stop is located to the left of the terminal entrance, offering an easy and budget-friendly transport option for travellers without a car.

Transportation

By Car: Kefalonia Airport is located 8 km from Argostoli and is easily accessible from the provincial road Argostoliou-Lakithras. The journey to and from the city centre takes about 15 minutes.

By Public Bus: Transit bus service is provided between the Airport and the city of Argostoli (only during summer season). There is a public bus stop in front of the terminal building. Tickets can be purchased by the bus driver. For more information please visit the official web site of the Kefalonia bus service http://www.ktelkefalonias.gr/en.

By Taxi: 24/7 metered taxi service is available outside the Kefalonia Airport Terminal building. The journey from the Airport to Argostoli is about 15 minutes and the fare is normally 15-20€. You may be charged extra, if you carry many pieces of luggage.
