Blue Cave
Kastelorizo is one of the Dodecanese, the easternmost of all and the easternmost tip of Greece. The island is 1.25 nautical miles off the southwestern Turkish coast and 72 nautical miles from Rhodes.It is one of the few islands that do not have beaches, except for the beach in Mandraki, and summer dives are made by the waterfront and the rocks around the castle and destinations that can only be reached by sea. One of these destinations, 20 minutes from the port in the south of the island, is the Blue Cave.
It is the largest sea cave in Greece and one of the most impressive and beautiful natural monuments in the Mediterranean Sea. Known as the "Cave of the Present" or "Fokiali", it impresses with its huge dome, its stalactites that are highlighted by the sun's rays and the deep blue waters. The whole cave takes on a strange blue color. The length of the cave internally is 75 meters, its width is 40 meters and its height reaches 35 meters. An awe-inspiring landscape for its visitors.
The cave hosts a family of Monachus Monachus seals that if you are lucky you will see as thousands of colorful wild pigeons nest in the cave. The cave also has a very interesting bottom, where unique and rare varieties of fish live. In the Blue Cave the access as we mentioned is done only by sea, by boat or by rented inflatable. Your stay there if you decide to swim lasts 30 minutes, an experience that you should definitely experience while enjoying the enchanting waters of the cave. Access to the cave is only possible by low boats and if the sea is calm, passengers will have to bend down to enter. It is a blue eerie palace that you should not miss if you visit Kastelorizo.
