Church of Agios Isidoros

The charming little chapel of Agios Isidoros is the most quaint church of Leros. It is situated in the Bay of Gourna, half a kilometer from the small village of Kokkali. It is built on a cliff connected to the rest of the island by a narrow passage, making it easily accessible on foot. The walk way over can be wet and slippery in places. Once crossed over the causeway there are a few more steps up to the church. In the main part of the church, around the walls, there are icons and religious. The most ornate part is the golden light fitting hanging from the ceiling. Agios Isidoros is built on the site of an ancient temple, the ruins of which can still be seen behind the altar.

It is one of the most photographed churches of Leros and a romantic spot with beautiful views and one of the best places to watch the sunset and take some nice photos. Many couples choose to have their wedding or the christening of their children there. It celebrates on May 14th every year.
