Church of Agia Sofia
There are many places in Cyclades islands that have spectacular views, beautiful chapels or churches but sometimes one comes across a place that touches your heart in a special way. Such a breathtaking place is the small church of Agia Sofia in Donoussa, a quaint whitewashed church with a blue dome, atop a hill just outside the Mersini village. This small church offers shelter from the wind to people waiting for the bus at Mersini village. It was built after World War II and offers fantastic views of the Aegean and the island of Amorgos. It is also a great place to take pictures and listen to the wind whistle, while gazing the endless blue of the Aegean. An annual celebration is held in the churchyard on September 17, with food, wine, traditional music and dance.
