Perissa beach

As Santorini is not known for its beautiful beaches, Perissa beach is a nice surprise. Covered in black volcanic sand, Perissa is a gorgeous beach, great for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. It is located on the south east coast of Santorini and is extended at base of the massive Mesa Vouno headland abruptly jutting into the sea. At the top of the mountain, lies the ancient city of Thira. Perissa is one of the most cosmopolitan beaches of the island, that stretches for miles. It is actually merged into Perivolos beach and together this is a 7+ kilometer beach. The water is very clear, gentle to slope into it and of a beautiful color. The coarse black sand is friendly to walk on and sparkles like glitter, however, it might be very hot in the summer.

There are sunbathing facilities, visitors can use for free when purchasing food or drinks from the corresponding beach bars next to them. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and taverns along the front for a relaxing drink or a nice meal. In addition to this, you can find lifeguards, water sports facilities, diving centers, a water park, and a beach volley area. Perissa beach is easily accessible by car or bus. If you are in Fira, it is very easy to get to Perissa by bus.
