Monolithos Beach

Monolithos is a lovely volcanic sandy beach in Santorini. The beach has two sides: the sports side which is rough, and the family side which features nice soft sand and calm waters. The family side is well organized with chairs and umbrellas available for rent. There are also places to eat and a mini market across the street for everything you may need. Additional amenities include an ATM, changing stalls, and showers. Free activities such as basketball and volleyball are also available. The water is quite shallow, so one needs to walk some distance to fully immerse without laying down. This makes the beach very safe for children and great for people with limited mobility. The sand is fine which is soft underfoot, but on windy days, the wind can pick it up and distribute it in every single thing on the beach. Monolithos beach is usually quiet, and easy to find a spot.

Access is easy with plenty of free parking available. The beach is 5.1 km (11 mins) from Fira, 16.8 km (25 mins) from Oia, 4.8 km (8 mins) from Kamari, and just 2 km (4 mins) from Santorini Airport. If you do not have a car or ATV, there is a bus service that runs twice a day to the beach. Overall, Monolithos is a really relaxing beach and a lovey place to unwind away from the hustle and bustle.

Tip: Visit this beach early in the morning and watch the sunrise over Santorini. It is as beautiful as the sunset over the Caldera but with no one else near you.
