Makrilies beach
Makrilies beach in Samothraki is a simple stone beach next to the road. It is a convenient place for the residents of Kamariotissa and the local villages, with great views towards Imbros and Lemnos Island on a clear day. The sea is beautifully clean, but the water gets suddenly deep. This makes entry difficult for young children, elderly, people with mobility issues and non-experienced swimmers. This part of the island is protected from the north winds, so the sea is usually calm. It is a great place for a late afternoon swim to watch the sun go down. Here, you will not find many facilities, but there is a shower and a changing room at the west end, and some hotel-owned sunbeds. Makrilies beach is located in the southwestern part of Samothraki, 8 km from Kamariotissa, and about halfway to Pachia Ammos beach. Nearby there is a fish tavern to eat, and some rooms for rent if you choose this part of the island for your vacation. Overall, this is not one of the best beaches on the island, however this beach probably offers the best sunset.
