Livada beach

Livada beach

Livada beach lies far up in the northeast corner of Tinos, about 19 km from Tinos Town and considered to be one of the most impressive beaches of the island. The beach is at the end of a well-maintained 2km dirt road, surrounded by rocky headlands. Even it may be rough to reach the beach, is really worth it. Hiking lovers can reach the beach via a path, starting from Falatados village. Livada is made up of small, rounded pebbles that don't cut your feet but a pair of water shoes would make the experience less painful.

The beach is like no other beach on Tinos. The rocks tumbling down to the water have been sculptured by wind and water, into some very interesting shapes. At one end, there is a fascinating stream that has fresh water even in summer and you can spot some turtles, ducks and other migratory birds, making the landscape even more beautiful. From the beach starts a picturesque path that leads to a lighthouse of 1910. The lighthouse is one of the island’s attractions and visiting is worthwhile. If you look for shade, there is not much, apart from a small line of trees back by the road.

The beach is exposed to north winds and if windy then this beach is ideal only for confident swimmers or surfers as it may be easy to get out too far but difficult to get back to shore again. Moreover, waters are rather deep, not perfect for young kids. If there is no wind then the beach is ideal for lying on rocks or the sand and jump into the crystal-clear waters. There is a small taverna, nearby where you can get a decent lunch. The tavern is only open during high season, so if you visit Livada off-season you’d better be equipped with water and some snacks. Apart from the tavern, there aren’t any other amenities on the beach or the wider area. If you plan to visit Tinos and you are fan of isolated and wild beaches, Livada should be added to your bucket list.
