Vitali beach

Vitali beach

Vitali is a stunning beach with great blue water on the east side of Andros Island. Andros has many lovely beaches to explore and Vitali is one of the most popular for its sheer beauty and the majestic landscape. It is small pebbles outside the water and larger smooth rocks in the water. The water is very refreshing and absolutely crystal clear with loads of fish and a small cliff for the brave to jump in from. The beach descends quickly into the sea, great if you just want to get in and get swimming, but shallow at both ends for the more cautious. It is not affected by the strong winds, fact that makes it a perfect choice on windy days and is wide enough so it can accommodate hundreds of people at once without feeling crowded. There is a small cave on the beach, and further up the river bed is another one for those who like exploring. A white chapel can also be found on the left side of the beach, offering amazing views from above.

Even though it is isolated has great services and a great beach bar, serving plenty of cold drinks and some light bites. Sun beds and parasol are available to make the day more comfortable, although there is limited shade close to the sea cliffs. Despite the sunbeds, there is plenty of room to setup your own umbrella and towel. There is also a family tavern that serves traditional food which is locally sourced.

The best way to get to Vitali Beach is by hiring a car. This beach can be a bit tricky to find and drive to over the rough dirt road, but navigable with care in low gear and well worth the effort both for the beach, but also the stunning scenery along the way with contrasting vistas around every corner. Although it is a 45’ drive from Gavrio with the last 3 km on a rough dirt road, it is worth the experience and is definitely a must-see beach.
