Nos beach
Nos beach is very close and an easy 15-minute walk from the port of Symi. It is a lovely beach with a nice view of the boats and yachts coming and going from the nearby harbor. When the boats come into harbor, they create a wave machine which is quite good fun too. Actually, Nos is not a natural beach, but a man-made beach which spans some 75 meters along the coast. The shoreline has been extended by building a rock wall and then filling it with sand and gravel.
There are loungers with umbrellas which you can actually see from the ferry on the right side of town. The beach is not fancy but the water is refreshing and clean. It is hard to get in and out of the water without lacerating your feet, but water drops off quickly and then you are swimming in open sea and you can’t see the bottom. So, bring water shoes as it makes getting in the water easier on your feet. The beach can get a bit crowded at noon, so try to get there early in the morning or a bit later in the afternoon. There is a little taverna right on the water that offers Greek food and a beautiful view over to Symi harbor. There is also a water sports place at the end of the beach, so if you want to rent a jet ski to see a bit more of the surrounding area, that is also an option.
All in all, if you go to Symi and want to stay close to town or you do not want to catch a taxi boat to a more distant beach, this place is a must. Not luxurious, or pretentious in any way, but a cool spot to go and relax, or have a swim and spend the day. Nos is a very convenient beach being just round the corner of the main harbor at Symi and accessible on foot from the town. There is a nice selection of tavernas and bars along the way. The beach is past the clock tower, just look for the “beach ->” sign.
