Elinda beach
Elinda is one of Chios’ most stunning and pristine beaches. It is a remote beach located in a well-protected cove on the west coast of the island, approximately 25,8 km from Chios Town. The legendary Papanikolis submarine used to hide in this bay during World War II. The fact that this beach is so remote makes it a perfect destination for those looking for peace and a relaxing day on the beach. Elinda is a relatively long beach with pebbles and crystal-clear but cold water. The bay is surrounded by hills with pines that in some places almost reach the water. Swimming here is great, so is snorkeling. On this beach you will not find any facilities such as sun beds and umbrellas, however there are some tamarisk trees for shade. Bring water and sea shoes if you do not feel comfortable walking on pebbles. Getting to this beach may be a bit challenging, but the trip is worth it. A visit to Elinda beach can be perfectly combined with a trip to the historic villages Anavatos and Avgonima, which are located nearby. To dine, head to Lithi Bay (5 km away) where there are many taverns with fresh fish and traditional Greek food. All in all, Elinda beach is a great place to visit and spend the day if organized and cosmopolitan beaches is not your thing.
