Agia Markella beach
At a distance of 8 km from the village of Volos, northwest of Chios, is built almost on the beach, the monastery of Agia Markella, protector of Chios. The long beach, facing the historical Psara, consists of sand and fine pebbles and is famous for its cold waters and its deep bottom. At the end of the beach there is the path leading to the place where St. Markella martyred. At this point, in the sea, hot water flows from the earth. The 22nd of July celebrates its grace as a holiday day for the island and thousands of people from all over Chios, the neighboring islands and the rest of Greece arrives in the area .
