Megali Ammos beach
Megali Ammos beach is beautiful and off the beaten track. The beach itself is quiet and secluded, fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. It is definitely one of the nicest beaches on Alonissos but you need a hire car to get there. The road is rough and very long and only suitable for 4x4s. There is also no clear place to park or turning circles. You will have to abandon the car and walk down a little steep track which is signposted to the beach. Although it is a bit more difficult to get there, it is worth the effort. There are some wooden sunbeds under umbrellas for rent but no other facilities, so it is advisable to bring your own water and something to eat. Megali Ammos is located on the north side of the island, approximately 5 km north east of Patitiri, the capital of Alonissos. If you love exploring virgin nature, this is the right place.
