Kokkinokastro beach
Kokkinokastro is a beautifully wild small beach with clear green waters. The sea is surrounded by red rocks and late in the afternoon it looks red too. It is possibly the most evocatively named beach on Alonissos (literally meaning “red castle”) after the red-hued cliffs that form a dramatic promontory. The beach offers a secluded atmosphere and deep waters that are great for snorkelers. It also offers the possibility of renting sun shades and has a little beach hut selling refreshments during the season. It is quite popular with families but not overcrowded. The beach is not a windy as it has got a little island right in front of it. Kokkinokastro is also one of the most important archaeological sites since there lies the old city of Ikos with some ruins of the Red Castle's walls still being visible.
It is located in the southern eastern coast between Chrisi Milia and Leftos Gialos and is easy to reach it by boat or car from Patitiri or you can just walk from Votsi village for about an hour through beautiful roads and forests. The parking is high up with steps down to beach. Kokkinokastro beach is a beautiful spot to be engulfed by the rippling waters and highly recommended if you are in Alonissos. Just beautiful to see and swim in. Do not miss it!
